Pardon Me?

Take a gander at this beautiful expose written by Bill Clinton's political advisor of 20 years. Should Scooter Libby be required to spend time behind bars for lying to a grand jury? I don't really care. Most people probably wouldn't, either, except that we are supposed to, since this important incident has been plastered all over the news as just another reason not to like Bush. Who cares? Bush is on his way out, anyway, so it's not like he really needs to score points with anyone. Republicans are falling all over themselves to distance themselves from him, and there's not a Dem to be found who is willing to give him much credit for doing a good job in the White House. So really... who cares?!

But then, here comes the Clinton condemnation of the pardon. I guess Summertime is perhaps the best time for them to open mouth and insert foot, what with sunburned faces and all. Makes it easier to pass the red-face test.

Yea, it's like the whole firing of the attorneys scandal- I don't care. And you're right, the vast majority of Americans don't care either. The only good thing about this is that the Democrats are spending valuable time before the election doing nothing. Just imagine if one got elected president.

Exactly. We all know the President has the power to veto and to pardon. It would pretty ridiculous not to expect him to use it to help a friend out of a purely politically motivated conviction.

As for the attorney-firings, I couldn't agree with you more. Big whoop. You know going into that job that you're only there so long as the boss who put you there likes you. Once he changes, you're floating in the breeze. In fact, it seems it would be irresponsible for a pres to not pay any attention to those judges.

Make no mistake, these are both purely political digs at Bush's legacy, payback for the Clinton embarassment.

But really... who cares?
